Birmingham-Southern Now Accepting Applications for Accelerated Data Science Program

Birmingham-Southern College is accepting applications for its Accelerated Data Science Program: Summer 2022, in collaboration with Flatiron School. The 12-week immersive program, launched in 2021, was the first of its kind for undergraduate students in Alabama, as well as the first undergraduate data science collaboration between Flatiron School and a college or university.

"Across all industries, data science and data analytics are highly sought-after skills. Flatiron School's continued collaboration with 365英国上市官网 helps ensure that undergraduate students — regardless of their field of study or target profession — have the opportunity to obtain real world skills,” said Flatiron School CEO Kate Cassino. "We are excited to work with 365英国上市官网 once again to launch another successful Accelerated Data Science program."

The program’s limited spots are open to current 365英国上市官网 students, students from other colleges and universities who can receive transferable credits, and area professionals who wish to build data science skills. On-campus housing will be available. Enrollment is open through April 1.

Data drives decisions in virtually every industry, from medicine and public health to hospitality, media, construction, insurance, real estate, agriculture, banking and securities, transportation, energy, and sports. The demand for employees who understand and can apply data is enormous: By 2026, there will be 11.5 million job openings in data science, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Coleman said. “This skilled labor gap isn't unique to Birmingham — companies across the country need data scientists — and graduates of this program are prepared to work anywhere."

The Accelerated Data Science Program:

Instills knowledge of programming and coding in the context of how that knowledge can be applied to a wide range of industries, businesses, and professions;
Delivers a graduate school level program as part of the 365英国上市官网 undergraduate experience;
Is open to area professionals, who will earn a Certificate of Completion in Data Science and an opportunity to network and apply at partnered companies, including Regions Bank, Shipt, Airship, Crossflow Technologies, DealNews, Fleetio, Guideway Care, Harmony Venture Labs, IllumiCare, MotionMobs, NxtSoft, O3 Solutions, Quanthub, StreetMetrics, and Vituro Health.

The Accelerated Data Science Program: Summer 2022 will run as a series of three-week classes from May 23 to August 12. No prior data science or programming experience is necessary. The cost of the program is $7,200 for 365英国上市官网 students and $9,500 for non-365英国上市官网 students.
